He earned his Ph.D. in Media Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University and an M.Phil. from the University of Hyderabad, where his research focused on the entanglements of faith and technology through interdisciplinary perspectives besides an M.A in Mass Communication and Journalism (2008) from the University of Hyderabad.
Raoof has taught at the University of Delhi, Jain University, and Alliance University, where he designed and delivered courses such as Media, Power & Culture, Media Ethics, Art of Communication, Business Communication, and Policy & Regulation. Before joining MICA, he served as Head of the Department of Film & Media Studies at Alliance University, where he contributed to academic planning, supported the development of a practice-oriented Media Lab, and led an international fellowship program committed to transdisciplinary learning and the cultivation of global citizenship through the liberal arts.
Raoof’s recent research paper, New Media Practices and Religious Change in Kashmir, was published by Oxford Intersections, Oxford University Press. He has been selected as a Visiting Fellow (2025) at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.
